My husband and I recently went to the Ushaka marine world in Durban. What an experience! I have never seen so many interesting little creatures drenched in such beautiful colours. We also went to a Seal and Dolphin show, and that was the cherry on top. The animals are so obedient and disciplined. By a single hand signal from the trainers, they perform the most amazing tricks and stunts. I was amazed. Sitting on the pavilion, watching these animals with awe, a verse in in the book of James came to mind that said, you can train any type of animal, but you cannot train the tongue. Involuntary I asked God how is it possible for me to be able to control my tongue, if it is impossible to train! I looked at these big trained animals, compared to my small tongue and felt discouraged. As we were heading back to Pretoria, I sat in the airplane, still thinking of my “untrainable” tongue, feeling quite discouraged. I opened up my bible at John 15:4 it said the following: “Abide in me…” I had my answer! Yes my tongue cannot be trained – especially not by myself, but if I were to abide in Christ, He will take care of the rest. I read further “If you abide in me and my words abide in you, ask whatsoever ye will and it shall be done unto you.” Wow! There is hope after all. I realized that we need to surrender everything to God! And I mean everything! I have to surrender my old sinful nature to God, I have to surrender my tongue, my heart and my mind to Him…I need to become less so that He can become more. Point is, we need to abide in Him, then we can ask whatever we want in His name and we WILL receive it.
"I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because your trust is in Him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit." Romans 15:13
